Safety

Crime. It's a topic that seems to be on everyone's mind nowadays. Fortunately, it's less of a concern for our residents and families, who enjoy the peace of mind that comes with living in an area that has the 27th lowest crime rate in the country!

The Places Rated Almanac 7th Edition rates each metro area for relative safety by adding the areas violent crime rate and property crime rate and then dividing by 10. The results for each metro area are then scaled into percentages with 0 being worst and 100 being the best. The higher the percentage (score), the safer the metro area.

The Hazleton / Scranton / Wilkes-Barre MSA scored a 93% in relative safety and was ranked 27th out of the 379 metro areas across the country making our area
one of the top safest metro areas in the United States.
